[The Ant]–spoken in Pen.

Drawn from a Royalty-Free GettyImages Photo “Ant on White Background” by Thomas Northcut during AEP today. Hmm… after this drawing I have decided that I don’t really like drawing insects. >P

  1. Hi Xin Yan!

I feel that your drawing of the ant in pen is not bad! Great contrast and use of stippling to model tha ant’s body. I can see that you have sort of mastered the art of using a pen! 😀 I particularly like the thorax of th ant as you have managed to capture its fine details despite just depicting them with dots.
However, I spotted a few errors in your work. Firstly, the bottom two legs on the left of the ant looks rather disproportionate as compared to the legs of the right side. Especially the last leg on the left side- it seems significantly longer. Maybe try to observe the original photo more carefully and make sure the legs on both sides are matched reltively well in terms of dimensions. Secondly, I feel that mabe you can lighten the area around the front and the back portions of the ant body to give the overall drawing a sense of balance of contrast. They seem to be very dark.

I say, well done, and keep up the good work! 😀
