Hi everyone! I’m into my fourth week of school at LASALLE College of the Arts. I’m studying BA(Hons) Design Communication and this calls for a new sketchbook!

I still had my beloved Singaore Biennale 2006 BELIEF tape from Leny a few years back and I decided to create a sketchbook cover design:

Here is the zebra design before sticking it onto the cover!

Here’s the book and it’s freshly minted cover in all its glory! :D

Frame Of Mind (2010)
Mixed Media Installation: Paper, Lightbulbs,Balsa Wood etc

In my pursuit of freedom,
I asked, “What is this thing you call Freedom?
I cannot see it. Nor hear nor touch nor smell.
How do I know if it’s mine?”

“It always has been. It’s all in your Mind.”

Poster Design that never got used..

October 23, 2010 at 6:14 pm | Posted in Digital Graphics | Leave a comment

I was reminded of my blog today and my promise to update it, so here’s something for a school CIP event I did that never got used.

The beneficiary was Operation Smile, a non-profit organization that helps children with cleft lip disorders. The CIP event was a concert held in our school auditorium, and my task was to design publicity materials for the event.

This was my first try on a logo with the theme “Metamorphosis” in mind. It was my SECOND pen tool drawing and it took a whole morning to figure out how to draw the basic shapes.

The logo was then used for the concert tickets.

This was my first try at the poster design. I didn’t like how it turned out. :( So I redid the design completely and here is the result:

I am super proud of this design! Sadly, the committee did not use any of my poster designs to lower costs. :(

Art Request: Pegasus Stippling

January 24, 2010 at 5:27 pm | Posted in Animals, Pen | 3 Comments

After the carnival, I got a request to make a larger-scale stippling work similar to my previous three “Arctic Animal” series. The artwork was to be given to a colleague of my friends’ to put in her daughter’s room. So there wasn’t much of a theme or criteria for me; I was pretty much free to come up with an image of my choice. In the end, I decided to paint my good friend the Pegasus in a dreamy moonlit night. Here is the result:

Pegasus (White opaque marker pen stippling on black poster painted canvas)

Needless to say I am very, very proud of this work. It took me about a day to finish, including the time spent surfing, facebooking and watching drama online. I hope the owner is happy with it! :]

NUH Art Canival Works

January 24, 2010 at 5:20 pm | Posted in Animals, Pen | 1 Comment

Here are some works I managed to create in time for the NUH Charity Carnival on 23 November 2009. Thanks to fellow Peachers Wei Rong, Kae Yuan, Sam and Zhang Quan for coming to help! <3

Snowy Owl

Arctic Hare

Arctic Fox

All three were made using white opaque pen marker on canvas painted over with waterproof black poster colour. It was done with my favourite technique, stippling, and took me hours to complete each. But it was well worth the effort, and I sold all three at the carnival! :D

TERM 2 ILP Submission: Papercut

Presenting my submission for Term 2′s ILP submission:

ILP1

This is the final papercut made from white cardstock and painstakingly handcut by XY! (: The draft is now being exhibited in its own little corner in the Inner Plaza. I named the draft “Polar Lights” out of sheer desperation. I don’t think I’ll name this piece yet. Because the design was made through pure spontaneity and random mumbo jumbo. Can you find all the animals? :D

ILP Misc Papercrafts

More random papercrafts done during ILP today. Here’s the bovine skull from the previous pencil sketch and some flora. The flower was inspired by Peter Callesen! (But of course it’s no where near his work!)

2-D Deer Papercut

I decided to try something new for ILP, and here’s the result.

I improvised as I did this, so I didn’t really plan for it or anything. I like the grass; it was made from single sheet folded in two! Haha. (:
